The most consequential developments in the global economy are no longer occurring within the forecasts. They are occurring beneath them. Forecasts are outputs; assumptions are foundations; and what the World Bank’s January and June 2026 Global Economic Prospects reveal, when read together with unflinching analytical rigour, is that the foundations themselves are now in motion. The foundational assumptions underpinning corporate strategy have expired. Every strategic model built in January relied on an implicit premise: that geopolitical tensions would remain localised, that commodity markets would stabilise, and that global growth would remain legible. The World Bank’s June 2026 Global Economic Prospects report has systematically dismantled that framework.
